About

Who we are

We're Genehackers, the synthetic biology team at the University of Chicago.

Every year we compete in iGEM, a worldwide synthetic-biology competition where student teams design and build a research project from scratch. A big part of what we do alongside the research is education outreach — getting into classrooms around the South Side and showing kids that synthetic biology is something they can actually do, not just read about.

We kept building lessons for those visits, and eventually put them all together into this toolkit so other teams and clubs could run them too. It's free and public domain on purpose: the more places this gets used, the better.

Want to use it, run an event with us, or just say hi? Drop us a note.
