Individual or pairs
Est. cost
$10-20

Students build a twisted-ladder DNA model from candy or beads and discover the A–T / C–G pairing rule themselves. This is the structure that lets DNA be copied and written. Near-zero prep, and an allergy-safe bead version is included.

What students do

  • Build a twisted-ladder DNA model from candy or beads
  • Discover the pairing rule (A–T, C–G) by figuring out which bases connect
  • Twist it into a double helix to keep or photograph

What you'll need

Licorice or pipe cleaners, gummies or pony beads in 4 colors, toothpicks, and a paper plate. About $10-20 a class; allergy-safe bead option included.

Full quantities and costs are in the materials & cost sheet.
